In August 2009, landscape architect Ray Higa, of PBR Hawaii & Associates, worked with city planners and officials of Honolulu on a site plan and tree grate solution for their newest extension of the city, Kapolei. High costs and extensive maintenance issues experienced previously by Honolulu using cast iron tree grates were major concerns. Fortunately, Ray Higa discovered our affordable, easy-to-install and maintenance free, all-plastic PolyGrate™ tree grates.
He had a sample PolyGrate™ installed for testing and inspection, which convinced city officials of Kapolei/Honolulu to accept and specify. In October 2010, the city purchased and installed 317 4’x4’ square units of PolyGrate™ throughout the city extension of Kapolei.
